About This Hike
This family-friendly hike can be adapted to suit nearly any group. Filled with ancient towers, abandoned villages, colorful travertine mineral springs, a small but vivid mineral lake, monasteries, and dramatic mountains, this day hike is one of the most scenic and accessible hikes possible near Gudauri. We begin by taking the brand new gondola from Gudauri, over Kobi Pass, to Kobi Village – an adventure in itself. From there, we drive a few kilometers up the valley to the trailhead. The 7km track to the ruins of the ancient village Ketrisi is mostly flat, though the time it takes will be determined by the snow conditions of the day. Truso Valley in winter is suitable for families with kids ages 10+ who are comfortable spending several hours in the snow.

9:00am – Gudauri Gondola Station
Welcome to the exciting world of snowshoe hiking in Truso Valley! Our family-friendly adventure begins with a scenic ride on the Gudauri gondola. As we ascend over the majestic Kobi Pass to Kobi Village, you’ll be captivated by the breathtaking views of Mt. Kazbegi and the surrounding mountain peaks. This is just the beginning of a day filled with wonder and exploration.
10:00am – Drive to Trailhead
Upon arriving in Kobi Village, we’ll prepare for our snowshoe hike and gather our gear for the day. Taking a a short drive up the valley to reach the trailhead.
10:30am – Start of Hike
Our 7-kilometer journey to the ancient village of Ketrisi begins. The trail is mostly flat, allowing for an enjoyable hike suitable for families and anyone aged 10 and above. The pace may vary depending on the snow conditions, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience. As we explore the wonders of Truso Valley, marvel at the vibrant colors of the travertine mineral springs and the vivid mineral lake, a true masterpiece of nature. It’s a picturesque setting perfect for capturing memories with your loved ones.
12:30pm – Ketrisi Village Ruins
As we approach Ketrisi, you’ll be greeted by the enchanting sight of ancient ruins blanketed in snow. Explore the remnants of this historic village and imagine life here centuries ago. This is a perfect spot for a family picnic amidst the tranquility of the snow-covered landscape.
3:30pm – Returning to Kobi Village
After a day filled with adventure, culture, and natural beauty, we’ll make our way back to Kobi Village. Take a moment to savor the last glimpses of this winter wonderland before we return to the Gudauri Gondola Station. As the sun sets over the Caucasus Mountains, we conclude our “Snowshoe Hike in Truso Valley.” Whether you’re a family seeking a memorable winter outing or someone looking for a unique experience away from the slopes, this day has been tailored for you.
