Goderdzi’s Enchanted Forest
Embark on an unparalleled adventure of cat skiing in Georgia’s crown jewel ā Goderdzi. Nestled in the heart of the Caucasus, Goderdzi is a hidden treasure within the realm of Georgian ski resorts. Following a rejuvenating night at Ambassadori Hotel, we’re ready to hop aboard our private snowcat and ascend the first summit, initiating our exhilarating expedition. Wander through the enchanted forest of grand pine and beech trees, bound through powder-laden fields between wooden roofs of snowed-in rustic villages, and relish vistas of snow-kissed peaks that extend their majesty into Turkey and beyond. The greatest thing about having a private snowcat is that you just need to point at the mountain you want to ride and the driver will take you there.Ā The trip includes 20 hours on the snowcat which will be distributed between each day depending on the conditions, plus additional time freeriding from the lifts, building kickers over abandoned houses, you name it…Ā
Revitalize in Ambassadori’s Alpine Spa.
Wrap up each exhilarating day with a soothing touch. Immerse yourself in Hotel Ambassadori’s Alpine Spa, where the steam of the sauna and the tranquil waters of the pool rejuvenate both body and spirit. Let your muscles unwind and reflect on the epic moments of your cat skiing adventure.
Replenish in the Restaurant & Bar
Georgian mountain cuisine might be the best apres ski food in the world. Enjoy hearty dishes full of cheese, butter, meat, and a sizeable traditional vegan menu built around beans, eggplant, walnuts, fresh and grilled vegetables. Impromptu traditional dance competitions have been known to pop up in the hotel bar as well as the occasional techno party.Ā
A Rare Taste of Georgia
As our mountain sojourn draws to an end, we embark on a flavorful journey through the Samtskhe-Javakheti region. Amidst awe-inspiring landscapes, we pause for a captivating Georgian cooking workshop that immerses us in the art of crafting traditional delights. Be prepared to delve into the enchanting world of Tenili, an obscure and creamy cheese celebrated as a UNESCO cultural heritage. With hearts and palates content after savoring our own creations, we bid a fond farewell, savoring the bittersweet closure of our extraordinary cat skiing adventure. 7 DAY GODERDZI
GODERDZI
Goderdzi, Georgia, offers an exceptional freeride terrain for true adventure seekers. Nestled amidst the breathtaking summits of Adjara, this region is a haven for intermediate to advanced riders looking to explore untracked powder in solitude. Hereās what you can expect:
Elevation and Terrain Features.
Goderdzi boasts elevations ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 meters, providing extensive freeride options. The terrain comprises pristine bowls, challenging chutes, and pillowy glades, ensuring an exciting variety for everyone.Ā
Abandoned Villages.
Where else do you have the opportunity to ski between the roofs of ancient wooden houses in snowed-in villages? A rooftop kicker session is a must.Ā
Tree Runs.
If youāre a fan of tree skiing, Goderdziās forests are blanketed in deep powder all winter. Our favorite beech forest reminds many skiers of Japan, while the evergreen forest across the valley is more reminiscent of Canada.Ā
When it comes to snow conditions, Goderdzi doesn’t disappoint. Situated in Adjara, where the first waves of eastward-moving weather systems carry moisture from the Black Sea, Goderdzi receives the highest snowfall in all of Georgia. Here’s what you can look forward to:
Annual Snowfall.Ā
With an annual snowfall of over 10 meters, Goderdzi ensures a deep and lasting winter playground. This consistent snowfall provides fresh powder throughout the season.
Dry Powder.
The snow in Goderdzi is renowned for its dryness, making it a dream for those seeking fluffy, light powder turns.
Snow Depth.
While snow depth varies throughout the season, mid-winter depths typically range from 3-8 meters, creating a deep and stable base for your backcountry adventures.
From Tbilisi (6-7 hours).
This scenic journey through central Georgia takesĀ 6-7 hours. After we depart from the pavement in Adigeni, a rugged off-road segment is followed by a Snow Cat transfer over a high pass unaccessible by car in winter. Imagine a ski resort so wild that it doesnāt even have a road connection from the capital.Ā
From Kutaisi (5-6 hours) orĀ Batumi (3-4Ā hours).
From Kutaisi, we start by taking the main highway down the Black Sea coast to Batumi. From Batumi,Ā a winding asphalt road ventures deep into upper Adjara, slowly deteriorating into a steep 35km off-road section only accessible with high clearance 4wd cars with experienced drivers. Our hotel lies at the very end of this off-road track.Ā
For the best combination of snow quality and weather conditions, consider planning your trip between late January and mid March.Ā
