9:00 AM – New Gudauri or Hotel Pickup
The day begins with meeting your snowshoeing guide either in New Gudauri or directly at your hotel. Once we’re all set, we embark on a scenic drive to Mleta village, where our snowshoe hike up to Lomisa Ridge will commence.
9:30 AM – Mleta Village
After arrivig in Mleta village, we will do a quick overview of avalanche safety gear before starting our ascent. The trail takes us on a moderately strenuous hike, leading to an isolated 9th-century monastery perched dramatically atop the ridge. This unique location is home to monks who graciously welcome visitors. The snowshoe hike offers stunning scenery and a taste of Georgia’s spiritual heritage.
12:30 PM – Lomisa Monastery
Upon reaching the summit, we take a well-deserved break. Here, you’ll have the extraordinary opportunity to share tea and conversation with the Orthodox monks. Peer into their austere way of life, savor a sip of “Chacha” (homemade grape vodka), and bask in the panoramic views. From one side, gaze upon the Gudauri region, and from the other, behold the breakaway territory of South Ossetia.
1:30 PM – Begin the Hike Down
Our journey back down via the next ridge, making a loop, will offer a different perspective of the landscape. If we’re fortunate, one of the monks may even join us for the descent, providing an enriching and unique experience.
4:00 PM – Mleta Village
The snowshoe hike ends with a return to Mleta village, where a taxi will be waiting to take you on a comfortable drive back to Gudauri. On the short drive back, you can reflect on the spiritual and natural wonders you’ve encountered on this must-try Georgian adventure.

10:00am – Gudauri Gondola Station
Welcome to the exciting world of snowshoe hiking in Sioni Valley! Our family-friendly adventure begins with a scenic ride on the Gudauri gondola. As we ascend over the majestic Kobi Pass to Kobi Village, you’ll be captivated by the breathtaking views of Mt. Kazbegi and the surrounding mountain peaks. This is just the beginning of a day filled with wonder and exploration.
10:45am – Drive to Trailhead
Upon arriving in Kobi Village, we’ll prepare for our snowshoe hike and gather our gear for the day. Taking a a short drive to reach the trailhead.
11:00am – Start of Hike
Our journey begins in Sioni village and we can choose between the shorter 3km hike or the longer 7km hike. The trail offers an enjoyable hike suitable for families and anyone aged 10 and above. The pace may vary depending on the snow conditions, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience. It’s a picturesque setting perfect for capturing memories with your loved ones.
3:00pm – Khevi Sioni Basilica
Finish the hike with a visit to the well-maintained 9th century clifftop church overlooking the summits and valleys of Kazbegi National Park. Step inside to light a candle and view an impressive selection of traditional orthodox art work.
3:30pm – Returning Gondola Trip
After a day filled with adventure, culture, and natural beauty, we’ll make our way back to Kobi Village. Take a moment to savor the last glimpses of this winter wonderland before we return to the Gudauri Gondola Station. As the sun sets over the Caucasus Mountains, we conclude our snowshoe hike in Sioni Valley Whether you’re a family seeking a memorable winter outing or someone looking for a unique experience away from the slopes, this day has been tailored for you.
