1 Day / Moderate

A moderately strenuous day hike takes us up to an isolated 9th century monastery precariously situated on a high ridge inhabited year-round by monks who are always happy to see visitors. You will have the opportunity to drink a tea with the orthodox monks (or chacha, their homemade schnapps), experience their way of life, and see the panoramic view over the whole Gudauri region on one side and the breakaway territory of South Ossetia on the other side. This hike is one of the most unique experiences Georgia has to offer, and a must for any visitors to Gudauri. If we’re lucky, one of the monks will even join us for the hike back down!
